Created to overcome

Created to overcome

The word “overcome” has always been interesting to me. The meaning of “overcome”, is to succeed in dealing with a problem or difficulty, to prevail, or overpower or overwhelm. It is such a powerful word for us as believers. God created us to be an overcomer because of His strength within us. (1 John 4:4).  God’s hope for us it that we would be overcome with His love and His peace. The same power that calmed storms, walked on water, and raised Jesus from the grave, lives within us. Because of that, we are more than conquerors. (Romans 8:37)

As powerful as the word overcome is for our faith, it is easy it is to find ourselves on the other side of that definition. Many people find themselves overwhelmed and overcome with negativity and self doubt. Because of a problem or a situation, it is easy to lose sight of the promise of Who lives inside of us. We can feel defeated and instead of feeling destined for greatness, we feel destined for failure and defeat. Our emotions can sometimes overpower us and we can find ourselves more overcome and less like an overcomer.

How many times have you been overwhelmed by a situation? How many times have you felt unsure of yourself and your circumstances? You may be going through some things right now that make you feel more overwhelmed than anything else.

Take a look at the definition again. It says, “to succeed in dealing with a problem or a difficulty.” These are things that challenge you, push you, stress you.” Overcome, by definition, speaks of gaining victory over something difficult, not something that is easy. Jesus tells us that we are going to face difficulties but that we should not be overcome with fear because we will overcome the obstacles in front of us.

You and I were designed to be victorious. Not because we are good, or smart, or strong, but because of Who is within us. (1 John 5:4). The greatness we have in this life comes from Him and His glorious riches (Philippians 4:19). So rest today knowing that you are an overcomer in Him. No matter where you are or what is going on around you, you are more than a conqueror. Enjoy the peace of knowing that God is on your side and He is working on your behalf. Do not be overcome by emotions of fear and doubt but allow Him to overcome your circumstances. Don’t be overwhelmed but allow Him to lead you and guide you as you speak out the promises of God. In Him you are more than a conqueror. In Him you are more than victorious.

Stay Captivated!
